To break down the walls of misunderstanding between the Arab-Islamic world and the West. Our mission is to promote dialogue between cultures, to break down stereotypes and prejudices and to transmit values of respect and understanding. Also, to raise awareness of the contribution of Islamic civilisation, promoting development and training projects. And, to conserve the tangible and intangible heritage in Muslim-majority countries through sustainable management.

FUNCI's activities aim to promote Euro-Islamic dialogue and contribute to the search for solutions to the problems of intercultural communication that affect our society today, through a better knowledge of Islamic civilisation in general, and Andalusian civilisation in particular.

Our main activities include:

• Heritage protection and dissemination activities, including the defence of tangible, intangible and natural heritage. Some of the main projects in this area are the Centre for Studies on Islamic Madrid (CEMI) and the Centre for Studies on Islamic Toledo (CETI), interdisciplinary spaces to contribute to the knowledge and protection of Islamic heritage in Madrid and Toledo. These include activities such as guided tours in both cities, inventories of cultural assets and many others.

• Environmental protection, through the network ‘Med-OMed, cultural landscapes of the Mediterranean and the Middle East’, made up of 23 Mediterranean countries, is a cooperation project that promotes the conservation and recovery of cultural and natural heritage. The objective is the conservation of biodiversity and natural and cultural heritage in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Among the most outstanding actions are: centres for plant diversity, an inventory of ‘Cultural Landscapes of the Mediterranean and the Middle East’, a network of botanical gardens, and many sustainable development initiatives, such as a Gardening School in Morocco for vulnerable young people.

• Fight against Islamophobia, dismantling stereotypes and prejudices, with projects such as ‘Twistislamophobia, because differences add up’ or multiple workshops and activities, for all ages, carried out to spread knowledge of Islam, as well as specific research tasks.
