We are seeking for partners in the fields of art, culture and education that wish to develop transnational projects for young and adult audiences focusing on audiovisual and film education, story-telling, and oral history. The goal is to strengthen the bond between small and mid-size cultural organisations across Europe that share the same interest in the educational aspect of cinema and film-making, and to develop communal projects that explore and deepen the concepts of European heritage and identity.

ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

The Cultural Organisation of Crete was founded in 2002 to promote and produce cultural, educational and artistic projects and publications. The two major projects of the organization is the Chania Film Festival /CFF and its educational program CFF Edu. The CFF takes place annually at the end of October in Chania, Crete. Through its versatile screening program and a multitude of parallel educational and art events, very quickly it received national recognition as an institution with cultural significance, establishing international collaborations and hosting prominent guests from Greece and abroad.
The CFF wishes to bring to the audience distinguished Greek and international films, but also aspires to provide the space for audience and creators to meet and have constructive dialogue, as well as to make a social impact by means of creative and interventional projects.
During its eleven-day duration (last week of October and first week of November every year), approximately 15.000 viewer (including school audience) attend free of charge the screenings and the parallel events, such as workshops, master classes, and exhibitions. The CFF is also active during the rest of the year until the next festival; it produces and presents a number of events throughout the year, special screenings, educational workshops, film productions etc.
The CFF Edu runs throughout the year with a multitude of special educational programs and activities for all ages. It aims at providing a complete understanding of the audiovisual language, through the following programs: CineMathimata, training of teams from the entire school community in film production within the school environment; CineGrafimata, training of teams of educators in the audiovisual and film language; Crete Education Documentary Project/ CR.E.DOC, practical exploration of methods to include the documentary in the educational process; School Film Club, hands-on activities and theory for anyone interested in running a film club in schools; and Crete Oral History, a collaboration with the local community for the conservation of intangible cultural heritage as part of collective identity, memory, and its documentation.
The CFF educational program is being designed and conducted by a team of experienced collaborators from the fields of education (from school educators to university professors), of cinema (directors, script writers, animators), as well as researchers, scientists and artists.
