The organisation, with more than 1050 members, gathers and connects journalists in the region of Galicia (NW Spain - 2.7M inhabitants). It offers them a wide range of services and collective benefits, defends the common rights of the profession, and contributes to the media literacy of citizens.

For years, the CPXG has organised workshops, awards, conferences, and training activities for journalists, as well as for educational centres and a large number of social entities, with the participation of thousands of people. Examples include the Press Freedom Award since 2005, the ‘Somos Esenciais’ Journalism Prize since 2020, and the ‘Nacho Mirás’ grant for young journalists since 2016. The organisation also has working groups on Mental Health and Justice in collaboration with public institutions.

Additionally, the entity has led various guides, reports, and recommendations on different aspects of the profession, enriching the range of resources available to the sector.
