Connecting the Worlds features thirty-one excellent literary works from across Europe, mostly from lesser used languages, that will be published on Slovenian, Polish, Latvian, North Macedonian, Austrian /German and Italian markets. The chosen works range from picture books for the youngest readers to YA books and novels for adults. The highlights include European cult authors, awarded picturebooks and works for children, small literary gems that would otherwise not easily reach the aforementioned markets. The project brings together 8 publishers from different countries who wish to increase the visibility of authors from 14 European countries. To reach better visibility of authors from smaller languages like Slovenian, Croatian and North Macedonian in Europe and beyond, we will organize publishers’ meetings, residencies for non-European publishers, focusing on selling rights and visiting international book fairs. To help raising the profile of translators, the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators will organize 6 events with translators and a one-week seminar for foreign translators who want to translate from Slovenian into foreign languages. The project includes a strategy to reach a larger readership and raise the awareness of the diversity of our common European culture among readers. With Reading Train activity we would like to attract more online readers and subscribers to book boxes and increase our audience. An important role at events will be played by authors (15 author’s tours) and translators (6 special evenings) who will introduce their work to a wider public. Within 36 months, 9 publishing teams and one translators’ association, 27 authors, 20 illustrators, 19 translators, 11 editors, 9 designers, 23 members of the project teams, 10 distributors, 19 foreign editors who will take part in networking, will contribute to a successful implementation of the project. A total of 138 professionals.
