PROJECT DESCRIPTION

RNMH wishes to promote and support the development of accessibility to cultural practices and artistic creation for people with disabilities, through the implementation of a European accessibility label for all cultural venues and services required by these people. The main aim of this partnership is to make artistic practices fully accessible to people with disabilities, and more specifically:

  • Designing a collaborative and virtuous system of commitment and cooperation between cultural and disability stakeholders (healthcare and welfare, institutions for people with disabilities, etc.) for more inclusive practices.
  • Exchanging best practices on any existing schemes and labels.
  • Professionalizing and enabling cultural and disability stakeholders to develop skills, visibility, and networking with each other and with people or structures requiring assistance.
  • Setting up and developing a European network to ensure that people with disabilities have access to artistic and cultural practices.
  • Implementing a label, unique at European level, making it possible to respond to a diversity of situations and practices, contexts, and territories.
  • Providing the European Union and European citizens with an innovative system that can be developed and transferred to other areas and sectors of cultural and social life in a universal approach as defined by international conventions.

The development of this European label will take into account accessibility criteria including:

  • Buildings, in accordance with the national and existing European standards, with a comparison between the criteria and methods defined and implemented.
  • The surroundings mobility, to make the facilities accessible.
  • Equipment, such as adapted music instruments, vibrating waistcoats, sound loops, artistic/stage objects.
  • Support rules/measures and teaching methods implemented in the venues and pathways.
  • Raising awareness and training for hosting and management staff.

ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

The aim of the RNMH is to promote access to art and culture for people with disabilities (performing arts, learning and training, musical/theatre/dance practice, observation and monitoring, resource, etc.). As a network for exchange, reflection, and information, the RNMH organizes its activities by leading the network with: organizing national conferences and regional seminars, contributing to advocacy and to national and local consultation bodies for the development of accessibility, and sharing information and resources. A platform on accessibility to venues and services for people with disabilities will soon be online. It is being developed with Saône-et-Loire as a test department and will gradually be extended to the whole of France. The RNMH cooperates with various national networks (APF France-Handicap, Tourisme et handicap, etc.) and local organizations and networks (local authorities, music/theater/dance schools, artistic and cultural institutions, etc.).
